I do a lot of photomanipulation, so i take a lot of photos. i believe that the quality of the initial photo is the most important part of the process. most of the photos here have been taken with the intention that they will be manipulated later. some are ones i've used and others are ones that i'd like to use but it hasn't worked out. I'm sure you all know what that's like -- a cool photo that just doesn't want to cooperate. maybe it will work for you.
